Services

 

The Association has introduced a number of services for the benefit of the blind across the Sultanate of Oman. Members have taken part in a number of local and national activities in areas of culture and sports as follows:

  1. Provided the latest equipment in the area of technology for the blind including Braille keyboard and printer. The software in Arabic has also been introduced enabling members access to the latest technology available on the international level.
  2. Publication of a booklet for normal sighted families and friends of the blind on how to inter-act and handle the blind. The booklet is both educational and draws attention to matters such as safety and communication tips.
  3. Establishment of a library that contains information and books in Braille and normal writing for both the blind and their collegues. The library also deposits magazines and publications in Braille for the benefit of the blind.
  4. Conducts special programmes for the blind by the blind on the national radio service during which listeners are able to call for information regarding matters relating to the blind. The programme also encourages the blind across the country to participate in competitions and send their responses in Braille. This programme has received tremendous awards. It is called: Passage to Light".
  5. Facilitates employment in the public sector and also assisted those forced to go on early retirement, return to their posts.
  6. Successfully negotiated with national financial institutions regarding the reduction of banks interests on loans acquired by the blind. This has had a positive impact on the economic burden of the blind.
  7. Conducts training in the Braille and other courses such as English language and introduction to computers for both the blind and volunteers.
